Monash researchers are bringing to life the stories and lives, people and places that have shaped Australian culture.

We are creating a cultural archive of our history.

Our historians are respected throughout the country, and lead innovative projects, including the current Australian Research Council funded investigation of the history of adoption in Australia and how it shapes our values.

We are working to preserve and learn from traditional Indigenous cultures through landmark archaeological, visual history and language projects.

Our information technology experts are building multimedia archival systems for Indigenous oral memory, helping communities to work with government and institutions on their own terms.

Working with industry

We work closely with Australia's leading libraries and archives, including the National Library of Australia and the National Archives of Australia.

We are working in partnership with the Koorie Heritage Trust Inc., the Victorian Koorie Records Taskforce, and the Australian Society of Archivists Indigenous Issues Special Interest Group to connect Indigenous children, young adults and community members to their cultural heritage through digital technologies.

Our researchers continue to work alongside Australian communities to enhance and preserve our natural and cultural resources.
